The community polytechnic scheme under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, is functioning well in our campus from 1999-2000. The main objective is focused towards the rural unemployed youth, school dropouts and SC/STs and other weaker sections particularly women. At present, there are 4 centres including the main centre at our college campus, and the extension centre at Sempatty, Thottanampatti, and Dindigul.
Out of the number of courses offered, I want to highlight few such as Tailoring & Embroidery, Screen printing, Diesel Mechanism and Computer programming.So far 9 batches comprising of 1974 students have completed their training in more than 12 trades and certificates were issued. Out of them 1300 are employed which is really a community development action under the leadership of our Chairman.
Also, we have trained 60 women under 21 days vocational training programme for self-help-group with a stipend of Rs.840 per candidate for the trades like Two Wheeler Mechanism, Carpentry, and Petrol Engine service through DRDA. |
